Picture a leadership coach at her kitchen table in Columbus at 9 p.m. One browser tab holds a conference submission portal. The other holds a half-written session description she has been polishing since August.

The talk itself is ready. She has given it to three local chambers. What she does not have is time, because the portal says the window closes in days, and the next one will not open until next year.

Quick answer

Several 2027 speaker applications close between Oct. 23 and Dec. 15, 2026. AHLA's Health Care Transactions call closes Oct. 23, MWC Barcelona and 4YFN close Nov. 5, WordCamp Asia Nov. 8, ICMA Nov. 13, AHLA's Annual Meeting Nov. 16 and USDLA Dec. 15. Check each official page before submitting.

Key takeaways

  • The first verified 2027 deadline is Oct. 23, 2026, for AHLA's Health Care Transactions program.
  • MWC Barcelona 2027 and 4YFN27 both close Nov. 5, 2026, at 23:00 CET.
  • MWC and 4YFN say speaking is free but unpaid, and both reject sales pitches.
  • USDLA's 2027 National Conference accepts proposals until Dec. 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
  • Selection teams consistently ask for first-hand stories, clear takeaways and original material.

The submission season for 2027 conference stages is closing. Between Friday, Oct. 23, and Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2026, eight calls for speakers at established 2027 events reach their final deadlines, according to the official event pages we reviewed this week.

The list below includes only calls we confirmed on the organizer’s own site, with the date as the organizer states it. Deadlines can move, so treat this as a starting point and open each page before you write a word.

What do MWC Barcelona and 4YFN want from speakers?

The two Barcelona events share a venue, Fira Gran Via, and a deadline of 23:00 CET on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026. They are different stages with different audiences.

MWC Barcelona’s speaker page says the conference is built for thought leadership, not sales. It asks for new material written for MWC, aligned with the year’s themes, and it values real use cases, ideally presented alongside a customer. Unsuccessful applicants hear back in late November 2026.

4YFN’s call, the startup event that runs alongside MWC, is aimed at founders, investors and corporate teams. Its reviewers say they favor first-hand experience over theory, including lessons from failure, and every proposal should state a clear takeaway. Unsuccessful submitters get an email in the week of Nov. 17, 2026.

Both pages are blunt about money. There is no cost to speak, and speakers are not paid. Both also say individual feedback is not provided.

Which calls fit coaches, consultants and authors?

Not every open call suits a business speaker, and that is useful information too. A tight fit beats a long list of long shots.

  • WordCamp Asia 2027 runs April 9–11, 2027, in Penang, Malaysia, and closes Nov. 8, 2026. Its call lists business and marketing among suggested topics, offers 15-minute lightning talks, 40-minute talks and 90- to 150-minute workshops, and allows up to two proposals per person.
  • The ICMA Annual Conference, for local government managers, meets Sept. 25–29, 2027, in Philadelphia. Submissions are due Nov. 13, 2026. Speakers who work with public-sector leaders on culture, communication or change are the natural match.
  • The USDLA 2027 National Conference is in Cleveland, June 21–24, 2027. USDLA’s call closes Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET, with acceptance notices on Jan. 15, 2027. It suits speakers who teach, train or build learning programs.

Speaker Spotlight: Heather Lundervold

Heather Lundervold turned holiday design into a profession, then built the stages for it: she founded a professional association, PAHD, and HolliCon, a twice-yearly conference for holiday designers. Our profile looks at how she trains the designers who come next.

Read the spotlight

What are selection committees saying they want?

Read the official calls side by side and the same requests keep showing up, in nearly the same words.

  1. No pitch. MWC, 4YFN and WordCamp Asia each say sales pitches or product promotion are a poor fit.
  2. Proof from experience. 4YFN asks for first-hand stories. MWC asks for real use cases and customer examples.
  3. A stated takeaway. Reviewers want to know what the audience walks out with, written in the proposal, not implied.
  4. Original material. MWC specifically asks for content created for its stage, not a recycled deck.
  5. Format fit. WordCamp Asia spells out exact session lengths. Pick one and design for it.

If your proposal language is vague, start there. Our guide to engaging with event planners and organizers covers how to frame a session around the audience rather than around you.

How should speakers use the weeks before a deadline?

A strong application is usually short. The work is in cutting. A practical order of operations for the next few weeks:

  • Choose two or three calls, not eight. Match the audience on the official page to the people you already serve.
  • Write the takeaway first. One sentence on what attendees will do differently. Build the title and abstract from it.
  • Swap claims for evidence. Name the situation, the decision and the result. Reviewers on these pages ask for exactly that.
  • Have video ready. Many committees look for proof you can hold a room. Our speaker reel tutorial walks through what to include.
  • Submit early. MWC’s own page recommends submitting before the deadline rather than on it.

What if every deadline on this list is wrong for you?

Then the list still did its job. Most large events open and close their calls months before the stage goes up, which means the stages you want for 2028 will likely open in 2027.

Use the gap to build a calendar of the events your clients actually attend, and to track the platforms where paid speaking opportunities are posted. The speakers who look lucky in March are usually the ones who filed in November.

Back at that kitchen table in Columbus, the coach does not need a new talk. She needs one sharp paragraph, one clear takeaway and the discipline to press submit before the portal closes. For a handful of 2027 stages, that window is open right now.

Frequently asked questions

Do conferences pay speakers who apply through a call for speakers?

Often they do not. MWC Barcelona and 4YFN both state on their official pages that there is no cost to speak and that speakers are not paid. Paid keynotes are usually booked directly or through a bureau, while open calls fill breakout and panel sessions.

How long should a conference speaker proposal be?

Follow the portal's limits, which vary by event. Most committees want a clear title, a short abstract, a stated takeaway for attendees and a brief bio. Shorter and more specific usually reads better than long and general.

Can I submit more than one proposal to the same conference?

It depends on the event. MWC Barcelona and 4YFN allow multiple submissions, while WordCamp Asia 2027 allows up to two proposals per person. Check each call's rules before you send several.

When do conferences tell speakers if they were selected?

Timelines are set by each organizer. 4YFN emails unsuccessful applicants in the week of Nov. 17, 2026, MWC in late November 2026, and USDLA sends acceptance notices on Jan. 15, 2027.

Should I mention my book or product in a speaker application?

Mention it only as credibility, not as the point of the session. Several 2027 calls, including MWC, 4YFN and WordCamp Asia, say sales pitches and product promotion are a poor fit, so lead with what the audience will learn.
